About the Ho Wong

Ho Wong is a legendary Chinese restaurant, and an institution of Glasgow’s thriving culinary scene, with a reputation for quality that extends well over three decades.

Established in 1986 (originally on York Street), the restaurant remains under the ownership of the Chung family today, and is still serving world class, freshly prepared Cantonese dining at the epic new restaurant on Waterloo Street.

Our new home:

Ho Wong has been in the Chung family for well over 30 years, and we’ve been lucky enough to cultivate a loyal following of regulars over those decades. And so, when the news broke in summer of 2019 that Ho Wong would be closing, due to a compulsory purchase order of the building on York Street that was home to our original restaurant, there was an outpouring of emotional tributes and support, and even a standing ovation for the family and the staff on the last night of service.

More than two years later, in 2021 as the COVID pandemic was easing its grip on the world, the Ho Wong announced it was to return, at our new home at 56 Waterloo Street. Thousands of enquiries rolled in for a table on opening night, and the phone rang solidly off the hook for weeks; it was immediately clear that our faithful regulars (many of whom had dined at the Ho Wong for literally decades) had stuck with us. And so, our new chapter began!

“Ho Wong is back! Beautiful new decor... same magnificent food.”
